ALEXANDRA GORCZYNSKI produces digital paintings and video works, even merging the two into sculptural collages. On the one hand, her work is immediately sensual in its use of color and form; her pieces open spaces in which the digital and the painterly meet in playful tension. On the other hand, throughout this decade Gorczynski has charted the canvas as a space for new and vital possibilities of picturing the female body after the Internet. Gorczynski’s practice confronts us with tensions underlying the female ideal in our present. Her nudes double back, posing new vulnerabilities of the self and the flesh reflecting our experiences of technological transparency.
